Tips For Using Themes

2017-12-28

Many people like to use "themes" for their mixes. This can work well if you have prepared a solid theme with songs, sound effects and voiceovers that compliment it. It can also backfire if the theme is weak.

Here are some tips to consider:

1. Pick a theme that is strong and easy to convey. Topics like "Hot", "Divas", "Girls", "Poplar Artist Medleys", "70's Music", etc.

2. Make sure your theme allows for a good choice of songs. A strong theme will give you many song options so that you can pick songs that not only fit your theme but make for good performance music for stunts, pyramids, tumbling and so on. A weak theme will greatly limit your song choices and can cause you to choose songs which do not work well for performance.

3. Compliment your theme with custom voiceovers and sound effects that will help to convey it to your audience and the judges. For example, if you did a "Star Wars" theme, you could add Darth Vader voiceovers, Chewbacca and R2D2 effects, light sabers, etc.

4. Try out your theme on family and friends. Play your mix or give your song choices to see if they easily understand what the theme is. If not, either change the theme or go with a "non-themed" mix.

We hope these tips will help you to make a successful "themed" mix and avoid any issues. Remember, we are always here to help and bounce ideas off of.
