Song Selection

2017-09-28

Many of our clients tell us that they struggle with "song selection" for their routines. Here are a few tips and suggestions to consider:

1. While you do need to like your music, there are other criteria to consider. Is it age appropriate for your team? Does it match the skill level? Is there any suggestive language or topics that could cause point deductions? Does it make for good performance music for tumbling, pyramids, stunts, dance or other sections of your routine? Does it fit with any theme you are doing? Does it provide any choreography or rhythm concerns?

2. Look at your music from a perspective "other" than your own. For example, you may like the songs but how about the performers on your team? Look at it from a judge's perspective. They are looking at good performance music which fits the routine and skill level of the team. Look at it from the audience perspective. They want to be entertained and excited! Sometimes it can help to get out of your own views/musical taste to see what will hit well with those scoring you and those cheering for you. "Grab their attention" with a great opening song section.

We hope that using some of this criteria will help you in selecting music that will work best for your team and performance so that your music can help you to be successful in competition. We are always here to help you as it is our job to make your music work "for" you.
